My story:
I hate it when my husband redlines something I’ve spent hours writing. It makes me feel like a dumb blonde; after all, I am an editor so I should have caught “that mistake”. I also know that when I write from my heart, my heart only knows it has something to say, it doesn’t pay attention to grammar and punctuation conventions.
I take this memory with me on every editing assignment. My “job” as an editor is not to make you feel dumb, but to help you find your voice and express the words, the ideas, the concepts that are clamoring inside you – pushing and demanding to be told to the world.
For me, editing is not being cold and removed from the written words; it is getting close to you to help you find the words, the right words, your words, the phrases that help you say what you need and want to say.
I have always been a writer, so you can imagine my amazement at my unfolding desire and passion for editing; that editing can mean more to me than writing.
I’ve recently discovered audio editing! The intensity of listening to the spoken word, hearing whether the voice conveys the meaning, the mood, and remains true to the written word reminds me of the importance of the spoken word; and that meaning still starts with the written word.
Awards:
I don’t have any. I was and still am, too busy working with my clients to take the time to apply and fill out the paperwork. I realize I might get more clients if I did, but honestly, I think that if my clients get published and make money on their projects and people remember what they said instead of their mistakes in spelling or grammar, that in and of itself is an award; if my students get better than a “C” on their papers and graduate – that’s the kind of award that fills my heart.

Volunteer Work:
Learning Ally – 3rd generation of Books for the Blind. Why? This organization has given free books to my dyslexic and visually impaired students and my grandson. My neighbor across the street listens to their books because she is virtually blind now and it is the only way for her to enjoy her favorite pastime – reading. It is time to give back. Did you know that it costs approximately $750 to produce a book for people who can’t read the printed word? And that is by using volunteer readers and quality editors.
I am part of a monthly healing meditation service.
What is so exciting I’m afraid to ask for it?
To work with and help develop books written by shamen and healers.
In this day and age of high tech, we are re-discovering the wisdom of the ancients. I have had the honor, the privilege of working with a healer and a shaman to bring their wisdom and knowledge to light. I would like to see the ancient wisdoms intertwine with today’s high tech to give substance to our various cultures.
Ancient wisdom, interestingly enough, doesn’t vary too much from one ancient culture to the next. The time line is different, but the actual wisdom is similar. How similar is something I’d love to investigate further.
I think a kick start campaign to pay the mystic writers and yes, to pay me to actually sit face-to-face with these living divine beings and help them write their stories. Then, I’d like to work with a publishing company to publish the stories so others can appreciate and learn about the ancient driving forces and wisdom that makes us who we are.
Technology is important, but it is the ancient wisdom that drove us to where we are today. Ancient wisdom, ancient stories, give us focus, a centering point from which to live from.
Why not a publishing house? A publishing house requires all advanced monies to be paid back before the author gets any royalties. The money raised through the kick start campaign has to be paid back, but the terms of repayment aren’t as severe.

Services:
Light Weight Editing:
- Checking for mechanical errors: verb-tense, punctuation, grammar, spelling, spacing, formatting
- Includes Light Weight Editing and structure of sentences and paragraphs; replacing repetitive or redundant words and phrases; checking to make sure sequence of information makes sense to the reader.
- Rewriting - With your permission, those portions of your document that need clarity or to be worded differently are rewritten; the position of paragraphs and concepts may be changed to make for easier reading; formatting changes might be required. Once this is accomplished, voice and consistency are re-checked along with checking for mechanical errors and possible structural errors and changes in voice. This level of editing may require several revisions.
- When you can’t find the time or don’t have the confidence to write on your own, I work with you to help you get your ideas down, finding the words that reflect you and what you want to convey. In some cases, the edit is a rewrite of what you submitted. In other cases, it is listening to you tell your story and writing it from your perspective with your voice.
- Listening to recordings and making sure that the recording reflects the written work, the intended meaning in a clear easy to follow manner is key to audio editing. I also check for voice quality, background noise, clarity of speech, emphasis and interesting tone and cadence.
- Creating online courses that enable participants to learn and grow.
Personal Projects:
- Learning to draw!
- Alcohol Ink
- Writing
- Editing
